Protesters block Dhaka-Khulna, Faridpur-Bhanga highways over constituency reorganisation
They warned that the blockade would continue until the EC's decision is reversed

Locals have blocked the Dhaka-Khulna and Faridpur-Bhanga highways, protesting the Election Commission's decision to include two unions from Bhanga Upazila in Nagarkanda Upazila.
Protesters used logs and burned tires to create blockades at the Hamirdi Bus Stand and Suyadi Bus Stand in Algi union at around 8:00am today (5 September).
The action led to a several-kilometre-long traffic jam, with vehicles, including ambulances, stranded on both highways.
Demonstrators said they consider the 12 unions and one municipality of Bhanga Upazila as "one family" and will not accept the Election Commission's decision.
They warned that the blockade would continue until the EC's decision is reversed.
The Officer-in-Charge of the Faridpur Bhanga Highway Police Md Rokibuzzaman confirmed that locals had blocked the highways by cutting down trees and burning tires, stating that the incident was a result of the Election Commission's decision to transfer the two unions from Bhanga to Nagarkanda.
