BNP leader Farroque questions motive behind NCP's protest in front of EC

Condemning a rally held by the National Citizen Party (NCP) in front of the Election Commission, BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Zainul Abedin Farroque today (21 May) raised questions about the intent and direction behind such demonstrations
"Why did the protest take place in front of the EC today when it is preparing for an election and has not yet faced any criticism? Who is instigating these demonstrations and for what purpose?" he asked at a discussion at the National Press Club.
The BNP leader further alleged that Dhaka South City Corporation mayor-elect Ishraque Hossain has been unfairly prevented from taking his oath of office.
Farroque also expressed disappointment that the judiciary under the interim government has yet to earn greater public trust than during the previous regime.
He accused the judiciary of being influenced in its verdicts and questioned the decision to delay Ishraque Hossain's swearing-in.
Addressing the chief adviser, Farroque said, "Why is Ishraque being blocked from taking his oath? Why was the city corporation locked down to prevent his supporters from entering?"
He further questioned why Ishraque supporters had to march from Matsya Bhaban to Shahbag in protest, and criticised the interim government for allegedly acting based on hearsay. "If you [govt] stopped Ishraque's oath based on someone's whisper, then that was a disgraceful act."
"We have lost all trust and faith in you [govt]," he added.
