AIMS of Bangladesh founder and managing director Yawer Sayeed no more
Yawer Sayeed, founder and managing director of AIMS of Bangladesh Limited, passed away in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, early on Saturday (13 June).
The board of directors, management and employees of AIMS of Bangladesh expressed profound grief and deep sorrow at his passing, according to a press release.
Yawer Sayeed was a pioneering figure in Bangladesh's capital markets and one of the most respected professionals in the country's financial sector.
He founded AIMS of Bangladesh, the first private-sector asset management company in Bangladesh, and successfully launched the country's first private-sector mutual fund.
Under his leadership, AIMS went on to launch five additional mutual funds, all of which have earned widespread recognition and investor confidence for their superior performance, transparency and regulatory compliance.
Throughout his career spanning nearly 40 years in Bangladesh and abroad, Yawer Sayeed made contributions to the development of the capital market.
Beyond fund management, he played a significant role in shaping market-friendly policies and regulations through his intellectual leadership and active participation in various committees and working groups of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission.
He was a staff consultant and performance auditor for Operation Evaluation Missions of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and also acted as the consultative group coordinator of the bank for the finance, industry and trade sectors in Bangladesh.
He had also been providing consultancy, research and advisory services to various multilateral agencies, including the World Bank.
The date, time and venue of his namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) will be announced later after his body is brought back to Bangladesh.
