AL won’t be allowed to participate in elections in any way: Adviser Mahfuj

Awami League will not be allowed to participate in the upcoming elections, said interim government Adviser Mahfuj Alam today (25 January).
Speaking at a street rally in Chandpur's Hajiganj Bazar, he emphasised that the election process would only involve parties aligned with pro-Bangladesh ideologies.
Mahfuj asserted that the elections would be open to all political parties, organisations, and individuals committed to the welfare of Bangladesh, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, student bodies, workers, women, intellectuals, and religious scholars.

He stressed the need for fair elections, aiming to establish a governance system rooted in justice and equality for the people of Bangladesh through positive competition among pro-Bangladesh entities.
Addressing the government's priorities, Mahfuj said, "Our focus includes prosecuting individuals involved in murders, disappearances, and rapes while implementing reforms and ensuring fair elections with the participation of all pro-Bangladesh political parties — a goal that has remained unattainable for the past 16 years."
Hajiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tapas Shil, Hajiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohiuddin Faruk, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, representatives from the Chandpur unit of National Citizens' Committee, and activists of the Islamic Student Movement were present at the event.
'No fear of military rule in Bangladesh'
Addressing another public gathering at Ramganj Government College ground in Lakshmipur, Mahfuj Alam stated that there is no fear of military rule in Bangladesh.
He clarified that the interim government has no animosity towards any political party within Bangladesh.
However, he emphasised that any efforts to influence or manipulate events from Delhi will be firmly resisted.
Alam further stated that those who ascend to power through legitimate elections will be responsible for upholding the rights of the Bangladeshi people.
He categorically ruled out any possibility of the Awami League's rehabilitation in the country, declaring that Bangladesh will remain under the governance of pro-Bangladesh individuals and that there will be no space for those aligned with Delhi.
