Woman allegedly tied to pole, assaulted over outstanding debts in Shariatpur
She also claimed her hair was cut, her face blackened and a garland of shoes placed around her neck before being publicly humiliated
A woman was allegedly attacked, tied to an electricity pole and assaulted over outstanding debts in Shariatpur's North Palong area today (13 June).
Police rescued the victim, Moli Begum 37, wife of expatriate Tutul Sardar, after locals alerted the national emergency service (999), Palong Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shah Alam told The Business Standard.
"She is currently receiving treatment at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital. We will provide legal assistance if the victim files a case," he said.
According to Moli, the incident stemmed from a dispute over money she had lent to several local residents. Relatives of Delwar Kotari, along with several women, attacked and assaulted her before tying her to a roadside pole.
She also claimed her hair was cut, her face blackened and a garland of shoes placed around her neck before being publicly humiliated.
However, Delwar Kotari's daughter, Mousumi Akter, denied the allegations of attack and assault, claiming Moli had been harassing their family and was detained by locals over accusations of drug dealing.
"She [Moli] also denied any outstanding debt," she alleged.
