If our patience runs out, unpleasant incidents may happen: Papon warns Rumeen Farhana
BNP reserved-seat MP Nadia Pathan Papon says Rumeen Farhana should remain loyal to the party and committed to the people
BNP reserved-seat lawmaker Nadia Pathan Papon has criticised Brahmanbaria-2 MP Rumeen Farhana over her recent remarks, saying Farhana appears to be speaking out of personal disappointment and warning that patience has its limits.
Papon made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after a tree plantation programme in Bekinagar village of Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria yesterday (1 October).
Referring to Farhana's long-standing support for the BNP, Papon said, "She [Rumeen Farhana] spoke in favour of the BNP for so many years because the party was genuinely persecuted. The BNP suffered, and propaganda was spread against it. A team from the BNP used to write those statements for her, and she would read them out to inform the public."
Papon said the BNP had previously made Rumeen Farhana a lawmaker and stressed the importance of remaining loyal to the party.
"The party's decision not to nominate her was its own. Many of us were not given nominations either. We did not protest. If you are part of a party, you have to be committed. If you do politics, you have to remain committed to the people," she said.
Papon said she had no intention of personally attacking Farhana.
"I think she is saying all these things out of personal disappointment, and she should not do so. We also have a limit to our patience," she said.
Warning Farhana against crossing that limit, Papon added, "Once that limit is crossed, unpleasant incidents can happen. We should not reach that point."
Rumeen Farhana represents the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, comprising Sarail and Ashuganj upazilas and part of Bijoynagar.
