Muslims in Munshiganj, Satkhira, Faridpur celebrate Eid today with Saudi Arabia
While Muslims in the southwestern district of Satkhira proceeded with their morning without interruption, those in central Munshiganj had to brave torrential downpours and sudden squalls that severely damaged prayer venues and forced significant delays
Hundreds of Muslims across various areas of Munshiganj, Satkhira, and Faridpur districts are celebrating the holy Eid-ul-Adha today (27 May) in alignment with Saudi Arabia, holding separate festival congregations and performing ritual animal sacrifices.
While Muslims in the southwestern district of Satkhira proceeded with their early morning schedules without interruption, those in central Munshiganj had to brave torrential downpours and sudden squalls that severely damaged prayer venues and forced significant delays.
The Eid prayers were also held in 12 villages across different upazilas of Faridpur, in line with Saudi Arabia.

In Munshiganj, the festival was celebrated across five distinct villages under the Sadar upazila, including Shiloi, Adhara, and Mollakandi.
Worshippers belonging to the Jahangira Sufi order had initially scheduled their primary congregations for 9:30am today. However, an abrupt bout of heavy rainfall and gusty winds swept through the region in the morning, uprooting the pre-arranged protective canopies and tarpaulins at the local Eidgah fields, which caused a temporary suspension of the proceedings.
Undeterred by the adverse weather conditions, nearly 500 devotees eventually gathered at the Shiloi Uttarkandi Eidgah field at 11am – a delay of an hour and a half -- to perform their principal Eid congregation, which was conducted under the spiritual leadership of Maulana Bachchu Munshi.
Following the conclusion of the prayers, the congregation offered special supplications seeking the overall welfare and prosperity of the global Muslim Ummah.
Muslims then engaged in traditional embraces, exchanged festive greetings, and proceeded to perform their ritual animal sacrifices according to their financial means.
Reflecting on the morning's disruptions, Moinul Majhi, the president of the Shiloi Union Eidgah Field Committee, stated that the community has long been celebrating Eid in tandem with Saudi Arabia, effectively marking the festival simultaneously with the global timeline.
He noted that despite the logistical challenges posed by the sudden morning rains, the community managed to complete their festival prayers beautifully by the grace of the Almighty.
To ensure the peaceful execution of the festival across the affected zones, local law enforcement agencies maintained a heightened state of alert.
Commenting on the overall security situation within the region, Sub-Inspector (SI) Amal Sarkar of the Munshiganj Sadar Police Station confirmed that the festival was celebrated across the villages in an exceptionally peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.
Satkhira with Saudi Arabia
Concurrently, a similar cross-border religious alignment was observed in the southwestern border district of Satkhira, where a separate section of Muslims held their main festival congregations early in the morning under much calmer conditions.
The principal congregation commenced smoothly at 7:30am at Baukhola village under the Kushkhali union of Satkhira Sadar upazila.
Over a hundred Muslims from various parts of the district congregated at the venue to perform their festival prayers before participating in the ritual animal sacrifice.
Worshippers participating in the congregation maintained that the sighting of the new crescent moon in any part of the world validates the immediate celebration of the festival globally.
They explained that since the moon had been officially sighted in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, they proceeded with their prayers and animal sacrifices in accordance with that global timeline.
The congregation saw a significant turnout of Muslims who travelled from various parts of the district to join the early prayers, including people from Tala, Patkelghata, and Kalaroa upazilas.
The special prayers were led by Maulana Mohabbat Ali, following which the participants exchanged festival greetings with one another.
In Faridpur
Marking the occasion with due religious fervor, the first Eid congregation was held at 8:30 am at Mait Kumra Jame Mosque and Mait Kumra Eidgah ground in Shekhar union of Boalmari upazila.
Another congregation took place at 10 am in Kataghar Rakhaltoli of Boalmari and the village of Alfadanga upazila.
Local worshippers said followers of Pir Maulana Yasin Ali of Satkania in Chattogram observe Eid every year in accordance with Saudi Arabia, and this year was no exception.
Families in the villages prepared special Eid meals and arranged sacrificial rituals after prayers, while children celebrated the day joyfully, wearing new clothes.
