Leader of kidnapping, human trafficking syndicate arrested with firearms in Teknaf

Police have arrested Kefayet Ullah, the leader of a kidnapping and human trafficking syndicate in the hills of Teknaf, along with three firearms and 11 rounds of ammunition.
The arrest was made in the early hours today (28 March) from the Hazampura area of Teknaf, said Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, additional superintendent of police (traffic) and spokesperson for the Cox's Bazar District Police.
Kefayet Ullah, 27, son of Nur Hossain from the Kacchaipia area of Baharchara Union, has been involved in multiple criminal activities. He has 11 ongoing cases against him, including charges of murder, kidnapping, and human trafficking, said ASP Jasim Uddin Chowdhury.
"Kefayet Ullah is the leader of a hill-based kidnapping and sea-route human trafficking syndicate operating in Teknaf. Based on a tip-off, police managed to arrest him with three firearms and 11 rounds of ammunition," he added.
The arrest of Kefayet Ullah has led to the filing of an additional case regarding the firearms recovered from him.
He has been sent to court for further legal proceedings, police confirmed.
According to Cox's Bazar district police, 240 people were kidnapped from various areas of Teknaf in the last 14 months. During the same period, 87 people were abducted from areas around Ukhiya.
