Lioness escapes enclosure at Mirpur Zoo, stays inside zoo grounds
A lioness has escaped from its enclosure at the National Zoo in Mirpur, Dhaka, but she remained still within the zoo premises.
The incident occurred at around 4:45pm on Friday.
As of this evening, zoo authorities could not yet place the lioness back into her enclosure.
No injuries or casualties have been reported.
National Zoo Director Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Talukder told Prothom Alo that the lioness settled near the water pump beside the deer enclosure.
"It is not possible to administer a tranquilliser dart from any direction. Our officials and staff are positioned nearby," he said.
Rafiqul Islam Talukder added that as it was closing time when the incident took place, they managed to evacuate visitors and no accidents occured.
He noted that the enclosure housed only one lioness. "How she got out can be determined after an investigation."
