Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 464 as 5 more children die in 24hrs

Five children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours between 8am yesterday and 8am today (18 May), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of these, 89 cases were laboratory-confirmed as measles.

In addition, 389 others have died with symptoms consistent with measles, taking the total death toll to 464.
DGHS data shows that between 15 March and 18 May, a total of 7,856 measles cases were confirmed through laboratory testing.
According to the latest health bulletin, 54,911 suspected measles cases have been identified nationwide.
Of them, 38,980 patients have already been discharged after receiving treatment.
