Coast Guard rescues 28 while being trafficked to Malaysia by sea
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the matter
The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued 28 people in Teknaf while they were allegedly being trafficked to Malaysia by sea.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the matter this afternoon (25 November).
Speaking to The Business Standard, the coast guard officer said a large group of men, women, and children had gathered on the beach near Kachhapia Ghat in Baharchhara, Teknaf, to be trafficked illegally to Malaysia by sea.
"Acting on the information, two teams from the Coast Guard and the police reached the spot early in the morning. The traffickers fled, but the teams rescued 28 people who had been assembled there for trafficking," he said.
He added that in primary questioning, the rescued individuals said several organised trafficking rings were planning to send Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens to Malaysia by sea, luring them with promises of a better life abroad, such as high-paying jobs, low-cost travel, etc.
