1,200 sued over vandalising shops, restaurants during pro-Gaza protests in Ctg; 8 arrested

Police have arrested at least eight individuals and sued 1,200 others in four cases filed over vandalism of business outlets, including those of Puma and KFC, during pro-Gaza protest rallies in Chattogram yesterday (8 April).
Confirming the matter, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Mahmuda Begum said, "Four cases have been filed with Kotwali, Khulshi, Panchlaish and Chawkbazar police stations over attacks on different restaurants in the city."
"Eight people have been arrested in these cases so far," Mahmuda added.
According to the police, three individuals were arrested in a case filed with Kotwali Police Station, four were arrested in a case filed with Khulshi Police Station, and one was arrested by officials of Chawkbazar Police Station.
Responding to a question, Mahmuda further said a total of 1,230 people have been sued in the cases filed following Special Power Act.
Earlier on Monday, 26 political and social organisations brought out rallies protesting Israeli violence on Palestine.
Calling upon everyone to boycott Israeli products, a section of the protesters attacked and vandalised the outlets of international brands like Puma, KFC and Pizza Hut.
