Election security: Army, Navy, Air Force chiefs hold meeting with CEC Nasir

The Election Commission (EC) held a meeting today (21 December) with the chiefs of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force to review the overall law and order situation ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election and the referendum.
The meeting began at around 12pm at the Nirbachan Bhaban and continued for approximately one hour.
Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan were present at the meeting.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin presided over the meeting, which was also attended by Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Tahmida Ahmed, Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar and Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah, along with EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
None of the service chiefs briefed the media after the meeting.

According to EC sources, discussions in the meetings are focusing on the prevailing security situation during the pre-election period, strategies to maintain peace and order on polling day and afterwards, recovery of illegal arms, suppression of criminal activities, and a coordinated operational plan involving joint forces.
The proper implementation of the "Code of Conduct 2025" for candidates and political parties is also being reviewed.
Those requested to attend the 2:30pm meeting include the principal secretary to the chief adviser, the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division, the inspector general of police (IGP), and heads of intelligence and law enforcement agencies — including National Security Intelligence (NSI), Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Bangladesh Coast
Guard, Bangladesh Ansar and VDP — as well as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner.
EC Public Relations Director Md Ruhul Amin Mallik said the commission will brief the media after the meetings.
Earlier, the EC announced that the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum on the July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Order will be held simultaneously on 12 February next year.
