Judicial Service Pay Commission holds first meeting, sets plan for salary review
The Bangladesh Judicial Service Pay Commission on Monday (29 September) held its first meeting at the Supreme Court conference room, laying the groundwork for reviewing salaries, allowances and benefits of judicial service members.
The meeting was presided over by Appellate Division Justice SM Emdadul Haque, who chairs the commission.
High Court Division Justice Fatema Najib, Law Commission member Dr Naima Haque, Comptroller and Auditor General Md Nurul Islam, Finance Division Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Dr Abu Shaheen Md Asaduzzaman, Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Liaquat Ali Molla, Supreme Court Registrar General Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddiqui, and Joint Secretary of the Law and Justice Division Md Azizul Haque also attended.
The commission discussed its working procedures and held initial talks on determining the pay structure and facilities for members of the judicial service.
Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed reconstituted Bangladesh Judicial Service Pay Commission on 8 September last to determine salaries, allowances and other facilities of lower court judges and to make necessary recommendations to the government.
It was also decided that courtesy calls would be paid on the chief adviser, chief justice and finance adviser.
On 9 October, the commission will sit with stakeholders, including the Bangladesh Judicial Service Association, the Law and Justice Division, the Law Commission, and the Judicial Administration Training Institute, for a consultation meeting on pay and benefits.
The Judicial Service Pay Commission was reconstituted on 8 September by the Finance Division.
