The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized illegal foreign liquor worth Tk4.15 crore from Dogir Khal area of Chattogram in the early hours of Saturday (3 May).

Acting on a tip-off, the operation launched at 5am by Coast Guard Base Chattogram, targeted suspected smuggling activities, according to a press release.

During the raid, Coast Guard personnel observed several individuals unloading sacks from a wooden boat. Upon signalling them to stop, the suspects abandoned the boat and sacks in a nearby jungle and fled through adjacent forest areas.

A subsequent search of the boat and surrounding jungle led to the seizure of abandoned goods, including approximately 1,056 cans of Heineken Beer, 1,161 bottles of foreign liquor, and four bottles of Twin Valley Olive Oil, valued at an estimated Tk4.15 crore.

No arrests were made, as the smugglers escaped upon detecting the Coast Guard's presence, reads the release.

The seized boat and contraband are currently under processing for further legal action. The Coast Guard remains on high alert, maintaining 24-hour patrols to ensure law and order along coastal and riverine areas, it added.

The Coast Guard has pledged to continue such operations to curb illicit activities in the future.
