Bangladesh coast guard begins election duty in coastal areas
The Bangladesh Coast Guard has been deployed in coastal areas to maintain peace and order ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum 2026.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard said it is committed to ensuring that the upcoming election and referendum, scheduled for 12 February 2026, are held in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. As part of this effort, Coast Guard personnel were deployed from 18 January and will remain in operation for 28 days, until 14 February 2026, acting as mobile teams and striking forces in remote and strategically important coastal and riverine areas.
Under the Dhaka Zone, Coast Guard members have been conducting special surveillance, regular patrols, and rapid response operations at 39 polling stations identified as risky or sensitive in Narayanganj, Matlab North, Chandpur Sadar, and Haimchar upazilas. The aim is to ensure a secure and conducive environment for voters.
The Coast Guard said it has also been conducting public awareness activities in its areas of responsibility to inform citizens of all ages and professions about the referendum being held alongside the parliamentary election.
In addition to maintaining law and order during the election period, the Bangladesh Coast Guard said it remains on high alert to protect voters' rights and prevent any form of violence. The force will continue to support other law enforcement agencies and local administrations to ensure the safety of lives and property of all citizens, irrespective of religion or caste, within its operational areas.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard reiterated its commitment to creating an environment conducive to a free, fair, and impartial election, and said it remains ready to carry out its assigned duties.
