Coast Guard rescues tourists after vessel capsizes in Sundarbans
The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued tourists from a vessel that capsized in the Karamjal area of the Sundarbans.
The information was confirmed on Sunday afternoon, 4 January 2026, by Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
According to him, a vessel named Pirates of Sundarban departed from Khulna on Thursday, 1 January, carrying 44 tourists to the Sundarbans. On Saturday night, 3 January, at around 10:30pm, the vessel developed a hole after being struck on the bulkhead, causing water to enter rapidly.
One of the tourists immediately informed the Coast Guard, after which two rescue teams from Coast Guard Base Mongla and Coast Guard Station Harbaria rushed to the scene using speedboats.
The Coast Guard conducted a rescue operation and rescued 24 tourists, including women, children, and two Chinese nationals, and brought them safely to Coast Guard Base Mongla. The remaining 20 tourists were rescued by the Naval Police.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq stated that the Coast Guard remains vigilant in ensuring the safety of tourists on waterways and will continue its efforts to maintain maritime safety in the future.
