LNG supply falls by another 100 mmcfd as gas crisis deepens
RLNG supply to the national grid has dropped by around 550 mmcfd since the shutdown of Excelerate Energy's floating LNG terminal, worsening gas shortages across the country.
The supply of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to the national grid has fallen by another 100 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), deepening Bangladesh's gas crisis in the wake of the shutdown of Excelerate Energy's floating LNG terminal.
According to a notice issued by Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC today (30 July), the shortfall in RLNG supply has now reached around 550 mmcfd.
Titas warned that the sharp reduction in RLNG supply would continue to cause low gas pressure at households, industries, captive power plants and CNG filling stations until the supply situation improves.

Petrobangla sources said the latest decline was caused by an inventory shortage after a scheduled LNG cargo failed to arrive on time amid the ongoing supply disruption.
Petrobangla data show that the national gas grid received 566 mmcfd of RLNG on 23 July, two days after a fire broke out at Excelerate Energy's floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
Supply fell to 543 mmcfd the following day before dropping further to 468 mmcfd, marking a decline of nearly 100 mmcfd within a few days.
Bangladesh's two FSRUs have a combined regasification capacity of 1,100 mmcfd, with the Excelerate-operated terminal alone capable of supplying up to 600 mmcfd.
Under normal conditions, the country receives around 1,000 mmcfd of RLNG from the two terminals.
Since the Excelerate terminal went out of operation following the fire on 21 July, gas supply has been dependent largely on the Summit-operated FSRU, which has been unable to fully offset the shortfall.
The prolonged supply disruption has already affected industrial production and transport services, with long queues persisting at CNG filling stations in Dhaka and other parts of the country.
The power sector is also facing mounting pressure, as lower gas availability has constrained electricity generation, contributing to load-shedding exceeding 1,500MW during most hours despite relatively moderate power demand.
