A young housewife burned to death in Anwara Upazila of Chattogram when her saree caught fire while she was cooking on Eid day (31 March).

The victim, identified as Urmi Aktar, 25, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) late last night.

According to locals, the incident occurred yesterday morning at Urmi's residence in Deyang Ali Chowdhury Bari, located in the Khaskhama Ward No 1 of Haildhar Union.

While cooking, her saree accidentally caught fire from the stove, leaving her with severe burn injuries.

Urmi, the wife of Bacha Mia, was rushed to CMCH for urgent medical attention. Despite efforts to save her, she passed away at around 10pm, according to family sources.

Confirming the incident, local Union Parishad Member Md Rafiqul Islam said, "She was admitted to CMCH, but unfortunately, she could not survive. Her body has been taken to her paternal home."

The deceased was the daughter of Md Selim from Dumuria Rudura village in the upazila's Chatari Union. She had been married to Bacha Mia for about one and a half years.
