Eid shopping: Women’s fashion sees a vibrant, diverse market

As Eid-ul-Fitr is approaching, the capital's shopping malls and fashion houses are gradually coming alive with shoppers hunting for the perfect festive attire. Almost all major fashion brands in the country have unveiled their latest collections.

Traditionally, Eid collections feature bright and vibrant colours, but this year, keeping the summer heat in mind, many fashion houses are showcasing light, comfortable clothes alongside their usual festive collections.

For women, Eid fashion now offers a wide spectrum of choices, from ethnic and traditional to fusion and contemporary styles, sarees to salwar-kameez, kaftans to tops. The festive market is brimming with a wide array of choices for women.

Salwar-kameez designs have particularly seen innovative cuts and patterns. Some brands pair long kurtas with palazzo pants, while others combine straight-cut kameez with straight trousers. Vibrant colour palettes are complemented by coordinated designs, making each outfit stand out.

At Chandni Chowk in Newmarket, Maria Akter was seen picking out a Lahore-style three-piece outfit. This season, her favourites are soft sky blue and light green shades.

"Eid shopping doesn't always mean glamorous outfits," she shared. "I've picked a Lahore three-piece, and now I'm looking for some cotton wear too."

Rabiul Islam, a salesperson at Samia Fashion House, said, "We've brought in all kinds of salwar-kameez. Pakistani, Lahore-style, and Kashmiri designs are selling the most."

Sarees feature new twists every year. Over time, the traditional designs have evolved to incorporate diverse inspirations. This year's collection includes motifs and patterns inspired by kantha stitch, traditional, kashmiri, ethnic, floral, tribal, jamdani, Turkish art, etc.

Arifa Jannat, who bought salwar-kameez for other female members of her family, picked out a saree for herself. Arifa said that on the occasion of Eid, a saree is always her first choice.

"My Eid shopping isn't complete without a saree. I have bought a silk saree, and I will wear it in the evening on Eid day," she shared.
