East West University arranges 19th convocation

The 19th convocation of East West University was held yesterday at its campus in Aftabnagar, Rampura in the capital, said a press release.

The convocation remembered the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ahead of his birth centenary. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni handed over the certificates to the students at the event.

Certificates were handed over to 2,111 students from the undergraduate and graduate programmes of the university. Three distinguished students also received gold medals.

Dr Kazi Shahidullah, chairman of the University Grants Commission was the chief guest at the convocation. From the East West University present were Vice Chancellor Professor Dr MM Shahidul Hassan, Chairperson of Board of Trustees Syed Manzur Elahi and Chief Adviser Dr Mohammed Farashuddin.

Speakers at the convocation called on the younger generation to nurture their innovative capacities and adopt entrepreneurship to achieve the desired economic, social and cultural advancements in the country.

They also stressed the need for personal and group responsibility, as well as accountability over ownership to achieve the progress dreamt during the independence of the country.
