East West University has been crowned champion of the SCLS National Law Olympiad 2025, held over two days at the University of Chittagong.

Jahangirnagar University secured the runner-up position in the competition.

Organised by the Society for Critical Legal Studies (SCLS), a student-led organisation under the Faculty of Law at Chittagong University, the event took place on 11 and 12 July and brought together 40 teams from 30 universities across Bangladesh.

These teams were shortlisted from over 70 registered teams, reflecting intense competition and widespread participation.

The four teams that reached the final rounds were East West University, Jahangirnagar University, London School of Legal Studies (South), and Chittagong University.

This year's Olympiad, titled "Climate Law and Environmental Justice," aimed to highlight urgent legal challenges related to climate change and environmental protection.

The competition featured five rounds, including the Reform Assembly, Research Paper Swap, and the final Symposium Round, where participants demonstrated their analytical, legal, and presentation skills on environmental law issues.

The closing and award ceremony was held at the CU Faculty of Law. Justice Syed Mohammad Tajrul Hossain of the High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, attended as the chief guest.

Among the special guests were: Professor Dr Shamim Uddin Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) of Chittagong University, Professor Dr Md Enayetullah Patwari, Controller of Examinations, Professor Dr Mohammad Saiful Islam, Registrar (In-Charge)

Barrister Mohammad Belayet Hossain, a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, was present as the guest of honour. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Rakiba Nabi, Chairperson of the Law Department and Moderator of SCLS.

The second day opened with the Reform Assembly round and concluded with a cultural programme and the final round. Participants were evaluated on their critical thinking, legal knowledge, and innovative approaches to environmental justice.

Since its inception in 2016, SCLS has been dedicated to enhancing legal education in Bangladesh by organising national-level competitions, seminars, symposiums, and moot court events.
