DSCC conducts special cleaning and mosquito control drive
As part of the July month-long program to commemorate the mass uprising of the students, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has conducted a special cleaning and mosquito control campaign on Saturday (July 19).
The campaign was conducted in Ward Nos. 74 and 75 (Nandipara-Nasirabad area) of DSCC Zone-6 in the presence of Honourable Administrator of the Corporation, Mr. Md. Shahjahan Mia, and Secretary of the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mr. Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, who was present as the chief guest. More than 600 workers from the DSCC Waste Management Department and Health Department, along with local people, participated in this special cleaning drive, which started at 6:00 AM. As part of the cleaning drive, dirt was removed from drains, sewers, and sidewalks, and mosquito repellent was applied.
Additionally, as part of the public awareness program, a public awareness rally was held, with residents and BD Clean members in attendance. Briefing journalists during the cleanliness program, Mr. Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, Secretary of the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, said, "If we keep our yards clean and do not throw garbage everywhere, then the work of the city corporation becomes easier." He commented that it is possible to build a clean city and country by changing the habits of the people. Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Mr. Md. Shahjahan Mia said, "We have come to the door of respected citizens to make residents aware and involved."
He further noted that the Dhaka South City Corporation will be successful only if the local people participate in dengue control. Additionally, the administrator stated that special initiatives will be implemented for the infrastructural development of the newly formed wards. Dhaka South City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mr. Md. Zahirul Islam, Secretary Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, along with all department heads and local leaders, participated in the cleanliness drive.
