OC says Haidar has multiple pending robbery cases
A suspected robber was killed and another injured in Noyapara, Gazipur Sadar Upazila, in the early hours of today (24 September) after locals caught them allegedly preparing for a robbery.
The deceased has been identified as Haidar Islam, 51, from Jalalabad village in Langdu Upazila, Rangamati. The injured, Alamin, 25, hails from Mohirhat village in Feni.
Joydebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhid Ahmed confirmed that a crude weapon was recovered from the suspects. He added that Haidar had multiple pending robbery cases registered at various police stations across the country.
"Legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently underway," the OC said.
Residents said the community had been keeping night watches at key locations following a series of recent robberies. Around 3am, they spotted a group of 10–12 suspected robbers preparing for a raid.
The locals chased them, capturing two suspects while the others escaped. The captured men were beaten by the locals.
Police from Joydebpur station, responding to the situation, rescued Haidar Islam and Alamin and rushed them to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital. Haidar was declared dead on arrival, while Alamin, who sustained serious injuries, was admitted for treatment.
