Police recovered the decapitated body of a transgender individual named Shila from her rented home in Rangamati yesterday evening (3 February).

Shila, originally from Hathazari upazila in Chattogram, lived alone in that home in Betbunia union under Kawkhali upazila.

According to locals and police, five individuals visited her residence at around 11pm on Sunday (2 February). After they left, Shila was not seen throughout the following day, reports Prothom Alo.

Concerned neighbours broke into her home yesterday evening and found her body lying on the bed with her throat slit. Upon receiving the information, police recovered the body.

"There were also stab wounds on Shila's abdomen. We suspect she was killed sometime on Sunday night," said Md Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Kawkhali Police Station.

The body was sent to Rangamati General Hospital for an autopsy, and preparations were underway to file a case over the murder.
