Pedestrian killed as LPG-laden truck overturns in Ctg, hundreds of cylinders spill on road

A visually impaired pedestrian was killed on the spot after an LPG cylinder-laden truck overturned in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram this morning (19 January), while hundreds of gas cylinders spilled on the road. The truck's driver and helper were seriously injured in the accident.
The incident occurred around 7:30am in the Nizampur area along the Dhaka–Chattogram highway. And traffic on the highway is currently normal.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, 42, a resident of South Alinagar in Korerhat Union of the upazila. Locals said he was partially visually impaired and earned his livelihood by begging.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck, which was heading towards Chattogram, lost control near the Nizampur foot overbridge and overturned on the highway. Before overturning, the vehicle slammed Abdur Rahman against the road divider, crushing him to death on the spot.
Confirming the incident, Kumira Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zakir Rabbani said, "After receiving information about the road accident, police quickly reached the spot and recovered the body of the deceased."
"The accident-hit vehicle has been seized and taken into police custody. The injured were rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment," he added.
He said that Abdur Rahman was visually impaired and that his body was handed over to his family after completing legal formalities.
The OC further added that the victim's family has filed a case in connection with the incident, and legal proceedings are underway.
