Daffodil, City universities sue each other's students over clash
City University’s registrar files one case, while a Daffodil University officer files the other
The authorities of Daffodil International University and City University have lodged separate cases accusing each other's students over the recent violent clash in Dhaka's Savar – a conflict that reportedly began over a spitting incident.
The two cases were filed with Savar Model Police Station last night (28 October), confirmed Officer-in-Charge Md Jewel Mia.
According to case copies obtained by The Business Standard, City University Registrar Professor Mir Akhter Hossain filed one case, while Daffodil International University's Assistant Administrative Officer Md Aftab Uddin Ahmed Khan filed the other.
City University's case accused 1,000 unidentified Daffodil students, including one named Fahad, of attacking its campus. The case also alleged that Daffodil authorities had incited and assisted the attackers.
The charges include armed trespass, arson, vandalism, looting, and use of petrol and hand bombs, claiming Tk15 lakh in stolen cash and valuables and around Tk20 crore in total damage.
In response, Daffodil's case accused 250 unidentified individuals of attacking and vandalising a rented student residence known as Bachelor Paradise, leaving several students injured and 11 held hostage overnight.
The university also alleged that City University students tortured Daffodil students at gunpoint and forced them to give false confessions under intimidation.
OC Jewel said police are investigating both the cases and that legal action will follow based on findings.
Earlier, repeated clashes between the students of the two universities in Savar's Birulia Khagan area from late Sunday night to early Monday left several vehicles burned and caused extensive property damage.
