Businessman shot dead in broad daylight in Old Dhaka
A businessman was shot dead in broad daylight in Old Dhaka's Sutrapur area yesterday.
The victim, Abdur Rahman, 55, served as president of the Shyambazar Kitchen Market Owners' Association. The incident occurred around 12pm in front of Maulabaksh Eye Hospital in the Shyambazar area.
According to witnesses, a group of assailants approached Abdur Rahman and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Pedestrians rushed him to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 1:30pm.
Abdur Rahman was a long-time resident of Shyambazar and had been serving as the head of the market association for several years. Assistant Commissioner Md Fazlul Haque of the Kotwali Zone under the DMP's Lalbagh Division confirmed the killing.
"Around noon, businessman Abdur Rahman was shot dead. We are hearing that a youth named Nayon might have fired the shots. We are looking into the matter," he told The Business Standard.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the killing. The body has been kept at the Mitford Hospital morgue for autopsy.
