Police have arrested 25 individuals after local Awami League activists in Khulna yesterday brought out two flash processions, reportedly under the instructions of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina from India.

From 12pm to 9pm on Sunday (20 April), the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) conducted operations across the city to arrest them, said Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Md Ahsan Habib.

He stated that police have arrested 25 activists from banned organisations including Chhatra League, Jubo League, and Awami League for taking part in the flash processions.

He added that operations were ongoing to arrest the remaining individuals involved.

He also mentioned that the arrests were made after identifying participants through footage of the rallies.

The processions were brought out by the party's Khulna metropolitan and district units at the city's Zero Point area around 7:30am, and at Daulatpur upazila around 3pm, each joined by more than a hundred local AL leaders and activists.

In addition, a memorandum was also submitted to the Khulna deputy commissioner seeking withdrawal of cases filed at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against Hasina.
