Mitford murder: 'I did not hit anyone, just stood there', accused Titon tells court
A Dhaka court has remanded Md Titon Gazi, one of the accused in the brutal murder of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag near Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka, who denied any participation in the crime.
Today (12 July), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Gias issued the five-day remand order after hearing from investigation officer Inspector Nasir Uddin of Kotwali Police Station, who had initially sought a seven-day remand.
When asked if he had anything to say, the accused stated, "Sir, You have seen me in the video that went viral. I did not harm anyone. I was called there by phone. I did not hit anyone nor did I give any orders to attack. I only stood there. I am innocent."

Titon reiterated his innocence outside the courtroom, screaming out to journalists, "They called me from the street. I don't know anything. I am innocent!"
He was arrested from the Zindabahar area this morning and is held under allegations of direct involvement in the attack, as detailed in the remand petition.
In a parallel case under the Arms Act, another suspect, Tarek Rahman Robin, submitted a voluntary confession in court.
Sub-Inspector Monir Hossain Jibon, investigating the arms charge, confirmed that Robin admitted ownership of the weapon and its use during the murder.
Five individuals have now been arrested in total.
Earlier, Mahmudul Hasan Mohin and Robin were placed on remand on 10 July, and RAB later detained two others, Alamgir and Monir.
On 9 July at around 6pm, a group of assailants ambushed Sohag near Gate No 3 of Mitford Hospital, attacking him with stones and sharp weapons and then brutally assaulting his lifeless body. The incident was captured on CCTV.
