Mitford murder: Accused Titon Gazi placed on 5-day remand
According to the remand petition, Titon Gazi was directly involved in the killing and is known to other suspects

A Dhaka court has placed Md Titon Gazi, one of the accused in the brutal killing of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital, on a five-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Gias issued the remand order on Saturday (12 July) following a hearing. The investigating officer, Nasir Uddin of Kotwali Police Station, had sought a seven-day remand.
The accused, however, was not represented by a lawyer during the hearing.
According to the remand petition, Titon Gazi was directly involved in the killing and is known to other suspects. Police stated that questioning Gazi is essential to identify unnamed accused mentioned in the First Information Report and to trace the planning and weapons used in the attack.
Titon was arrested during a drive in the Zindabahar area under Kotwali Police Station at around 1am this morning.
Meanwhile, five suspects have now been arrested in connection with the brutal murder, with three already placed on remand.
On Thursday (10 July), a Dhaka court placed Mahmudul Hasan Mohin (41) and Tarek Rahman Robin (22) on separate periods of police remand, as confirmed by Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana's court.
Mohin and Robin were earlier detained by police, while Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two other suspects, Alamgir (28) and Monir (32).
Today, police from Kotwali Police Station arrested the named accused Titon Gazi.
Earlier today, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said the murder case filed over the killing will be transferred to the speedy trial tribunal.
"Five people involved in this incident have already been arrested. Police have started the investigation with utmost priority," he wrote in a post from his verified Facebook page this morning.
Lal Chand alias Sohag, was the son of Yusuf Ali Hawlader from East Namabari in Keraniganj. He had been running a scrap metal business for years on Rojoni Bosh Lane in Old Dhaka.
According to witnesses, on Wednesday (9 July) at around 6pm, a group of assailants attacked Sohag near Gate No 3 of the Mitford Hospital with stones and sharp weapons, killing him on the spot in front of bystanders.
CCTV footage of the attack, which has since gone viral, shows the assailants attacking the victim's dead body in a display of disturbing brutality.
Police responded swiftly and transported the body to the morgue after preparing an inquest report.
Sohag's sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a case at Kotwali Police Station naming 19 individuals and including 15–20 unidentified suspects.
