Mitford murder: 2 more suspects remanded for 4 days
Two more individuals arrested in connection with the murder of scrap dealer Lal Chand alias Sohag in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka have been placed on a four-day remand each.
The arrestees, Abir Hossain and Roman Bepari, were remanded by the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akhter yesterday (2 August).
The court issued the order after the investigating officer, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman, produced the two before the court and sought a 10-day remand for each for interrogation. Court sources confirmed the development today (3 August).
Abir and Roman were arrested in Dhaka on Friday, bringing the total number of people detained in the case to 14.
According to the case statement, Sohag was attacked and killed with stones and sharp weapons on 9 July around 6pm in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital gate.
The next day, the victim's elder sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a murder case at Kotwali Police Station, naming 19 individuals and 15–20 unidentified people. Police also filed a separate case under the Arms Act in connection with the same incident.
The 12 previously arrested individuals are Mahmudul Hasan Mahin, Titon Gazi, Md Alamgir, Monir alias Lomba Monir, Tarek Rahman Robin, Sajib Bepari, Md Rajib Bepari, Nannu Kazi, Rizwan Uddin alias Abhijit Basu, Md Parvez, Md Zahirul Islam, and Md Sagar.
