CA mourns death of Language Movement veteran Ahmed Rafiq

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has expressed condolences on the death of Language Movement veteran Ahmed Rafiq.
Ahmed Rafiq, also a poet, essayist and Rabindra specialist, died last night (2 October) while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (Birdem) Hospital in the capital.
In a Facebook post today (3 October), the chief adviser said, "Ahmed Rafiq's death is a loss for the country's culture and free thought. Despite health challenges, he continued to work until his last days."
He added, "Ahmed Rafiq was a witness and active voice of the Language Movement. He was also a poet, essayist, researcher and guide in Rabindra studies. Through more than one hundred books, he contributed to Bangla literature, culture and the history of the Language Movement. His work in Rabindra studies was recognised in both Bengals. The Tagore Research Institute in Kolkata awarded him the title of 'Rabindra Tattwacharya', recognising his scholarship."
He prayed for the departed soul saying, "Ahmed Rafiq's life and work will inspire future generations. The nation will remember him."
The chief adviser conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members, admirers and literature and culture lovers.
