British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke meets Jamaat chief Shafiqur
They discussed the UK’s partnership with Bangladesh and the pathway towards an inclusive, democratic and prosperous future

British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke met with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Shafiqur Rahman and senior leaders at the party's central office in Dhaka today (11 March).
They discussed the UK's partnership with Bangladesh and the pathway towards an inclusive, democratic and prosperous future.
Earlier in December, a Jamaat delegation, led by Shafiqur, paid a courtesy call to Cooke at her residence in the capital.
According to Jamaat sources, the visit was prompted by remarks made by a member of the British Parliament about Bangladesh and the Jamaat, which the party deemed "misleading and false."
During the meeting, the Jamaat leaders handed the high commissioner a formal protest note, addressing the parliamentarian's comments.
