British company proposes waste-to-energy project in Chattogram

A British company has proposed a project to Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) for generating gas and electricity from waste. The proposal was presented to city Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain yesterday evening (17 March) during a meeting at the temporary CCC office in Tigerpass.
The company, DP CleanTech, has expressed interest in implementing the project through 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The firm already operates waste-to-energy plants in five countries worldwide. Aziz Ahmed, the public relations office of CCC, confirmed the matter through a press release.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the feasibility of the project. Following this, company representatives visited CCC's waste dumping station at Arefin Nagar to assess the potential site for implementation.
Key attendees at the meeting included CCC's Chief Sanitation Officer Commander Ikhtiyar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, DP CleanTech's Managing Director Mathieu Molena, and local representatives of the company—Tariqul Islam, Md. Maruf, and Captain Javed.
If successfully implemented, the project is expected to revolutionise waste management in Chattogram and contribute significantly to the production of environmentally friendly energy.
