BNP, NCP, Jamaat, Hefazat to hold rallies during three-day govt holiday that starts tomorrow
BNP will hold a large-scale workers' rally tomorrow at 2pm in Nayapaltan on the occasion of International Workers' Day

The BNP, National Citizen Party (NCP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam have announced separate rally programmes in the capital during the three-day-long government holiday that starts tomorrow (1 May).
The BNP will hold a large-scale workers' rally tomorrow at 2pm in Nayapaltan on the occasion of International Workers' Day,
Tarique Rahman, the party's acting chairman, will join the rally virtually. Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other central leaders will be present.
The Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal is organising the rally. Leaders and activists from Narayanganj, Gazipur, Tangail, and other neighbouring districts will participate in the rally along with those from the capital.
Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation, affiliated with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, will also hold a rally on the same day at 9am in Paltan intersection.
The rally will be presided over by the Federation's President and former MP Maulana Anam Shamsul Islam. The Jamaat Ameer, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, will speak as the chief guest at the programme.
Special guests will include Deputy Ameer and former MP Mujibur Rahman, and Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar.
Central and metropolitan leaders of Jamaat will also deliver speeches during the event.
The next day, Friday (2 May), the National Citizen Party (NCP) will hold a rally at 3pm on the south gate of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram.
This rally will demand justice for alleged crimes committed by the Awami League (AL), cancellation of its registration, and prohibition of political activities.
The programme will be held under the banner of the party's Dhaka Metropolitan branch unit. NCP said 10,000-15,000 people may attend the programme.
On the third day of the holiday, Saturday (3 May), Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh will hold a grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
The organisation has been preparing for this programme for a month.
The primary demand of Hefazat in the grand rally will be the withdrawal of nearly 300 cases filed against their leaders.
Additionally, discussions will include demands for justice for the alleged killings during various incidents at Shapla Chattar on 5 May 2013, in March 2021, and 2024.
They will also demand the abolition of the Women's Affairs Reform Commission, the restoration of "faith and belief in Allah" in the preamble of the constitution, and protests against the persecution of Muslims in Palestine and India.
