BGB seizes smuggled Indian goods worth over Tk13 lakh in Kushtia
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized illegal Indian goods worth more than Tk13 lakh in separate drives in Kushtia. Members of the 47 BGB Battalion conducted three operations to recover the contraband items.
According to BGB sources, yesterday (24 September), a special drive was carried out on the Kushtia town's Lalon Chattar highway, where 15,680 packets of counterfeit bidi were seized. The estimated market value of the goods is Tk862,400.
Later the same day, at around 7:30pm, BGB launched another operation in the Jamalpur border area and recovered 10 bottles of Indian liquor, valued at Tk15,000.
On Thursday (25 September) at dawn, another drive in the Udaynagar border area led to the seizure of 108 kg of Indian current nets, worth approximately Tk 432,000.
BGB said the total value of the seized goods amounts to Tk1,309,400. The counterfeit bidi will be handed over to Customs, while the confiscated liquor and nets will be stored at the battalion store for destruction.
Lt Col Md Mahbub Murshed Rahman, commanding officer of the 47 BGB Battalion, said, "BGB remains strict in ensuring border security and preventing all kinds of illegal activities, including drugs. Such drives will continue in the future."
