BGB, locals stop BSF push-in of 12 in Kushtia border
The incident took place around 5am this morning (12 June) near border pillar 148/3-S in the Pragpur border area.
An alleged attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push 12 people into Bangladesh was foiled by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents at the Pragpur border in Daulatpur Upazila of Kushtia.
The incident took place around 5am this morning (12 June) near border pillar 148/3-S in the Pragpur border area.
According to local sources and BGB, members of India's 11 BSF Battalion from the Raninagar area tried to send 12 people into Bangladesh illegally. After receiving information, BGB personnel quickly took positions along the border, while local residents also stayed alert and helped resist the attempt.
The 12 people included four men, four women, and four children. They are currently staying inside Indian territory.
Pragpur Union Parishad Chairman Ashrafuzzaman Mukul said 12 people were being sent into Bangladesh from India early in the morning, but joint efforts by locals and BGB prevented it. He added that surveillance along the border remains ongoing.
Subedar Asad Hossain, in charge of Pragpur BOP, confirmed the incident and said the group was not allowed to enter Bangladesh. He also said border monitoring has been strengthened with support from local residents.
Following the incident, security has been tightened in the border area, and BGB patrols have been increased.
