Bangladesh, India to resume bi-annual border talks in Dhaka this month
Earlier this year, a Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) delegation visited India in February for similar discussions, according to the Deccan Herald.

The bi-annual India-Bangladesh border talks are scheduled to take place in Dhaka from 25 to 28 August, marking the first Indian delegation visit since last year's change in Bangladesh's government.
Earlier this year, a Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) delegation visited India in February for similar discussions, according to the Deccan Herald. The 56th director general-level talks were originally planned for July but postponed due to administrative reasons.
The Indian delegation will be led by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary. Key agenda items include illegal border crossings and enhanced cooperation.
India has informed Bangladesh that around 5,000 body-worn cameras have been distributed to BSF personnel along the border to document incidents involving the force, including attacks or other border-related concerns, to facilitate stronger action.
Officials note that no major policy decisions are expected during this session, as Bangladesh is currently under an interim government. Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to the interim government, recently announced general elections for February 2026.
At the previous talks held in Delhi in February, both sides agreed to establish a new communication link between second-in-command border officers and identified 99 new sites suitable for fencing.
Official data states that about 864.48 km of the 4,096 km India-Bangladesh border remains unfenced, including 174.51 km deemed "non-feasible" for fencing.
Historically, DG-level talks have been held annually since 1975, becoming bi-annual from 1993, alternating between New Delhi and Dhaka.
The border spans five Indian states: West Bengal, Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam, and Mizoram, with the BSF as the primary security and intelligence agency.
