BGB seizes smuggled goods worth over Tk 171.6 crore in September

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized various types of smuggled goods and contraband drugs worth over Tk 171.6 crore from different parts of the country, including border areas, in September, according to a BGB press release.
The seized items include 6.356 kg of gold, 1.65 kg of silver, 9,248 saris, 13,558 pieces of three-piece sets, shirt pieces, chadars and blankets, 11,461 ready-made garments, 1,286 metres of than cloth, 3,91,793 cosmetics, 2,952 pieces of imitation jewellery, 13,61,276 fireworks, 4,202 cubic feet of wood, 2,035 kg of tea leaves, 11,377 kg of betel nut, 81,780 kg of coal, 735 cubic feet of stone, 4,630 cubic feet of sand, 6,349 kg of yarn and curtain materials, 379 mobile phones, 3,443 mobile displays, 35,062 spectacles, 17,269 vehicle parts, 32,778 kg of cumin, 17,641 kg of sugar, 9,451 kg of onion, 130 kg of garlic, 13,276 kg of fertiliser, 4,164 packets of seeds, 1,581 packets of pesticides, 189 litres of diesel, 4,39,034 pieces of chocolate, Tk 73,540 in Indian rupees, USD 30,000, 1,525 cows and buffaloes, 19 trucks or covered vans, 12 pickups or Mahindras, one tractor, four private cars or microbuses, six trolleys, 130 boats, 36 CNGs or easy bikes, 66 motorcycles, and 67 bicycles or vans.
The BGB also recovered two locally made pistols, two magazines, 100 rounds of ammunition, and three other weapons.
A significant quantity of narcotics was also seized, including 20,87,143 Yaba tablets, 4.663 kg of heroin, 4,491 bottles of Phensedyl, 12,113 bottles of foreign liquor, 384 litres of locally made liquor, 1,108 cans of beer, 1,298 kg of marijuana, 2,24,811 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 10 kg of tobacco leaves, 57,745 narcotic tablets and injections, 4,384 bottles of Escafe syrup, 12,249 Anegra and Senegra tablets, 40 bottles of Cofidyl-M syrup, and 7,54,258 pieces of other medicines and tablets.
During the drives, BGB arrested 198 smugglers and detained 1,197 Bangladeshi citizens and nine Indian citizens for illegal border crossing and involvement in drug trafficking. Legal action has been taken against them.
Additionally, 805 Myanmar nationals were pushed back while attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally.
