BGB personnel loses leg in landmine explosion at Naikhongchhari border

A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) naik, Md Akhtar Hossain, was severely injured in a landmine blast at the Naikhongchhari border, losing one leg and narrowly escaping the loss of the other.
The incident occurred this morning (12 October) around 10:50am while the BGB was conducting a patrol in the Tumbru border area, said Lieutenant Colonel S M Khairul Alam, commander of BGB's 34th battalion in Cox's Bazar.
The injured BGB naik has been admitted to Ramu CMH for advanced medical treatment.
According to BGB and locals, Myanmar has planted numerous landmines in the no-man's land along the remote hills and dense forests of Naikhongchhari. Landmine explosions frequently occur in the area.
Since 2023, 16 people have been injured in landmine explosions in the border area, including three respectively in 2023 and 2024, and ten up to August 2025.
