President's swearing-in: Roads to avoid in Dhaka today
Buses travelling from Shapla Chattar and Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk and Gulistan will use the Dainik Bangla–UBL–Press Club route.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced special traffic restrictions in parts of the capital today (21 August) ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The ceremony will be held at Bangabhaban at 7:30pm, with the outgoing president, the new president, the prime minister, the speaker, the chief justice, former presidents, cabinet members, diplomats, senior government officials and other dignitaries expected to attend.
According to a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) traffic advisory issued yesterday (20 August), the restrictions will remain in place from 3pm to 9pm today to ensure smooth movement of vehicles carrying guests to the swearing-in ceremony.
DMP traffic advisory
- All vehicles will be barred from entering the road from Aliko Gap at Motijheel's Shapla Chattar through the Dilkusha commercial area (Bangabhaban Road) to the Rajuk Crossing (DIT Road).
- Buses travelling from Shapla Chattar and Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk and Gulistan will use the Dainik Bangla–UBL–Press Club route. They may use other suitable alternative roads if necessary.
- Commercial vehicles will not be allowed to travel from Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk.
- Vehicles coming from Hanif Flyover will not be allowed to make a U-turn at Zero Point. They should turn left towards Phulbaria or right through UBL Crossing towards Dainik Bangla–Shapla Chattar.
- As an alternative, vehicles may use the Zero Point–UBL Crossing–Nightingale Crossing–Fakirapul Crossing–Shapla Chattar–Ittefaq route.
The DMP has requested commuters to avoid the affected roads where possible and use alternative routes to minimise traffic disruption.
