3 held in Bandarban while trying to smuggle 120 blankets to Myanmar
BGB personnel stopped an auto-rickshaw heading towards the Myanmar border during a late-night patrol in the Chakpara area.
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained three suspected smugglers yesterday (23 October) along with 120 blankets while they were being trafficked into Myanmar through the Chakpara border in Naikhongchhari Upazila of Bandarban district.
The operation was conducted last night by a special patrol team of the 34 BGB Battalion, said Lt Col SM Khairul Alam, commanding officer of the battalion based in Cox's Bazar.
The detainees are Md Mohib Ullah, from Chakdhala area; Md Ziaur, from Fujurpara, and Md Osman, from Cherarmath area—all residents of Naikhongchhari Sadar Union.
Lt Col Khairul Alam said BGB personnel stopped an auto-rickshaw heading towards the Myanmar border during a late-night patrol in the Chakpara area.
Upon searching the vehicle, they discovered 120 blankets allegedly meant to be smuggled across the border, he added.
The three passengers on board were subsequently detained.
A case has been filed against the detainees under the relevant laws at Naikhongchhari Police Station, the BGB official added.
