The Bangladesh Army detained 10 alleged members of the notorious 'Hitlu Babu Gang' and seized illegal firearms and ammunition from the capital's Matikata area early today (20 May).
The operation, launched around 2am by the 86 Independent Signal Brigade of the Bashantek Army Camp, resulted in the recovery of three automatic pistols, one revolver, and 28 rounds of ammunition, along with other tools used in criminal activities.
According to an official press release, the army had been monitoring the gang's activities for an extended period based on intelligence inputs.
Acting on a tip-off, the special raid was carried out.
Around 5am, when the operation was underway, gang members reportedly attempted to attack the patrol team in an effort to evade arrest. In response, the army fired warning shots to bring the situation under control. The suspects failed to escape and were subsequently detained.
Local residents expressed relief and welcomed the army's swift intervention to restore safety in the area.
Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious or criminal activities to nearby army camps or law enforcement authorities.
