Another youth suffers severed ankle in landmine explosion near Naikhongchhari border

A Bangladeshi youth sustained a severed ankle in yet another landmine explosion along the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban.
The incident occurred around 10am today (25 June), approximately 400 meters inside Myanmar territory near border pillars 46 and 47, opposite the Jaruliachari Border Outpost (BOP).
Naikhongchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mashrurul Haque confirmed the incident.
The victim, 25-year-old Omar Mia, is a resident of the Moulvikata area in Kachchhpia Union of Cox's Bazar's Ramu upazila.
Citing local sources, OC Haque said a landmine planted by the Arakan Army detonated inside Myanmar territory, severing Omar's left ankle.
Locals rescued him and took him to Naikhongchhari Upazila Health Complex, from where he was referred to Cox's Bazar Hospital for advanced treatment, said the OC.
He added, "Locals said the injured individual has long been involved in cross-border smuggling into Myanmar."
This incident follows a similar explosion on 22 June, when a teenager lost his leg to a landmine blast on the Jamchhari border in Sadar Union.
