Leaders and activists of the women's wing of the activities-banned Awami League brought out a flash procession in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area today (27 February) to mark the organisation's founding anniversary, leading to the arrest of eight people by police.
Confirming the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Dhanmondi zone) Shah Mustafa Tarikuzzaman said around 20-25 activists of the Bangladesh Mahila Awami League arrived in a microbus and staged a brief march on Road No. 3 in Dhanmondi at around 6:15am.
A patrol team from Dhanmondi Model Police Station rushed to the scene after receiving information and detained seven activists along with the driver of the vehicle, he added.
The detainees were shown arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act, he further added.
