Court orders Interpol Red Notice against Tulip Siddiq
The ACC informed the court that Siddiq left the country before the case was filed and is allegedly attempting to destroy evidence and materials relevant to the investigation.
A Dhaka court has ordered the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice for the arrest of Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, daughter of Sheikh Rehana and niece of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The order was issued today (26 February) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Sabbir Faiz following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), confirmed Court Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain.
According to court sources, ACC Assistant Director AKM Mortuza Ali Sagar submitted the application seeking the Red Notice through Interpol to facilitate Siddiq's arrest.
Allegations
The ACC alleged that Tulip Siddiq was involved in irregularities related to the approval and sale of flats by Eastern Housing Limited. The application stated that despite knowing that certain properties were non-transferable due to serious irregularities, Siddiq allegedly used her political influence, through her aunt Sheikh Hasina, who was then serving as prime minister, to unlawfully influence a legal officer of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).
The ACC claims that she facilitated approval of power-of-attorney and flat sales in favour of Eastern Housing Limited and received a flat in Gulshan without payment as part of a conspiracy involving illegal benefits.
A case was filed against her on these charges.
The ACC informed the court that Siddiq left the country before the case was filed and is allegedly attempting to destroy evidence and materials relevant to the investigation.
Given that she is currently abroad, the court deemed it necessary to issue a Red Notice through Interpol to ensure her arrest.
