No activity by banned political parties to be allowed: IGP
Regarding members of the activities-banned Awami League, the IGP clarified that those who do not create trouble would not face harassment.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam today (22 February) directed field-level policemen to ensure that no activities by banned political parties are allowed to take place.
The police chief issued the directive during a virtual meeting held at the Police Headquarters with all unit heads, metropolitan police commissioners, range DIGs, and district police superintendents.
Emphasising the need to maintain law and order at any cost, the IGP said, "No activity of a banned political party can be allowed to continue. Legal action must be taken against anyone who attempts to create disorder."
Regarding members of the activities-banned Awami League, the IGP clarified that those who do not create trouble would not face harassment.
However, he maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward criminal activities, stating that legal action must be taken against anyone involved in extortion, terrorism, or drug-related offences, regardless of their political affiliation.
The IGP also underscored the importance of curbing crimes like extortion, mugging, and drug trafficking.
He specifically instructed the Highway Police, as well as district police units, to take stringent measures to prevent robberies on the country's highways.
"Highway robberies must be stopped at any cost," he asserted.
Senior officials, including additional IGs, were present at the Police Headquarters during the meeting.
