A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against film actress Rubina Nijhum and her husband, Mamunur Rashid Rahul, in a case filed over allegations of fraud and breach of trust.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroze Tithi passed the order today (19 February).
The plaintiff's lawyers, Syed Nazrul Islam and AK Faisal, confirmed that the accused failed to appear in court despite the summons issued for their appearance by today, prompting the request for arrest warrants.
The case was originally filed on 29 January by Suravi Begum. Two more individuals were named in the case — Rahul's brother Nannu Mia and sister Mahima Bibi.
According to the complaint, the accused borrowed Tk12 lakh from Suravi in October 2020 under an agreement to repay within two months. When Suravi faced financial difficulties last year, she requested repayment on 1 May, but the accused allegedly refused.
On 22 September, Suravi reportedly went to the couple's residence in Banasree to demand repayment, where she claims she was threatened with death instead of being repaid.
Attempts to contact Nijhum and her husband for comment were unsuccessful.
