Ramisa rape and murder: Dhaka Bar Association announces no legal representation for accused
Police said the accused confessed in court under Section 164 to the rape and murder of Ramisa
The Dhaka Bar Association has announced that none of its members will provide legal representation or services to the defense in the case involving the rape and subsequent murder of an eight-year-old schoolgirl, Ramisa Akter, in the capital's Pallabi area.
Mohammad Abul Kalam Khan, general secretary of the Dhaka Bar Association, confirmed the decision today (May 22), saying, "Following a virtual executive committee meeting via Zoom, we have unanimously resolved that no member of our association will represent the accused in the Ramisa rape and murder case."
Md Anwar Zahid Bhuiyan, president of the Dhaka Bar Association, said, "The rape and murder of an innocent child like Ramisa is an exceptionally heinous and grave offense. We demand exemplary punishment for those involved in such crimes to deter society. Consequently, we have decided that no lawyer from our association will represent the defense."

Earlier on Tuesday (19 May), police recovered Ramisa's dismembered body from a rented flat in Pallabi.
According to police, the accused gave a confessional statement under Section 164 before the court, admitting to raping and killing the child.
Authorities said the child's head had been severed after the killing and was later found inside a bathroom, while the main body was recovered from beneath a bed.
In the same case, his wife, Swapna Khatun, 26, has been sent to jail.
